Coaching Cycle.JPG

Our vision of this initiative supports the Ministry of Education’s LiteracyGAINS through the use of the professional learning cycle (and the Coaching cycle), where teachers are

  1. given explicit literacy strategy instruction and modeling

  2. given job-embedded co-planning and co-teaching opportunities that allow them to target reluctant and struggling readers in order to hone their inferring and making connections skills.

Teachers on learning teams acting as co-coaches make use of the Partnership Philosophy (Equality, Choice, Voice, Dialogue, Reflection, Praxis, Reciprocity) to co-create a contextualized literacy activity to be delivered in subject areas.

Our work is informed by the research of Jim Knight (Instructional Coaching), Mary Catherine Moran (Differentiated Literacy Coaching), and Cathy A. Toll (The Literacy Coach's Desk Reference).
